Bronze hares and more from Joanna's studio Each hare is sculpted in terracotta clay or wax. A mould is then made by applying a very thin layer of silicon to the sculptured piece, then covering it with an outer clay body. A fiberglass support case is built around this outer clay. The outer clay is then removed and replaced with silicon forming a thick silicon mould. The original sculpture is removed and therefore lost. The mould is then used to cast the hares in cold cast bronze (very fine bronze dust mixed with a binding resin). The final piece is 98% bronze on the surface and can be polished or allowed to darken with age. If you require a foundry bronze piece please contact us for a quote.
